Media Tax Credit

Most Canadian provincial governments now offer a digital media refundable tax credit program, created to encourage Canadian businesses to invest in R&D, innovation, and the development of new digital interactive products. Programs currently exist within British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia.

In Ontario, the program is called the Ontario Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit (OIDMTC). To be eligible the final interactive product must educate, inform, or entertain and must contain information in the form of text, sound, and images.

Unlike the Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) program, eligible expenditures under the IDMTC program not only include all development costs, but also include marketing and distribution expenditures.
